They do this by providing mentoring and befriending support to women offenders leaving HM Prison & YOI Low Newton, Durham, and who are returning to the North East of England.

Open Gate provide practical support around issues of accommodation, drug & alcohol use, benefits, debt & finance, education, training & employment, children & families and physical & mental health. Mentoring and emotional support around raising self esteem, confidence and motivation.

They support clients in needs specific to the individual and cover a range of ares where support can be provided. Practically they facilitate a range of appointments in the community specific to the individual and provide donations of clothing/ household items. Many women value someone to talk to and they provide the listening ear which can impact on their emotional health and wellbeing.
